during his 20 year experience as an engineer and R&D manager
at HP. Tom later served as a Director of Operations for Mission
Critical Linux, a consulting company based in Lowell MA. Tom's practice
focused on providing software and services for companies entering
the Linux operating system environment.
While
at HP and at Mission Critical Linux, Mr. McNeal has continued his
involvement with the technical aspects of distributed file systems,
including SUN's Network File System, and Microsoft's Common Internet
File System. As a leading expert in file systems he has written
several technical papers. Tom is part owner of the public Linux
documents concentrating on NFS, including the NFS Performance Overview
documents, and the NFS "Frequently Asked Question" documents.
Since entering
the consulting business, Mr. McNeal has worked both at Quadrics,
ltd. and at HP. While consulting with Quadrics, which produces cluster
interconnect hardware and software, he helped with the MCR cluster
at Lawrence Livermore Labs. This cluster, which has over 1000 computation
nodes, recently ranked as the 4th fastest cluster in the world,
based on benchmarks maintained by the "Top500" supercomputer
consortium (http://www.top500.org/). Currently, he is involved with
engineering organizations which support NFS on HP-UX.
